Effectiveness
The program effectiveness has been documented in the Action research and the implementation phase.
Data was mainly collected in the form of anecdotal records and testimonies of the parent-participants.
What the parents say:
“This program was made for me… It does not only help you with your child. It shows you how to deal with other people too…
I used to beat my children harshly when they misbehaved… I stopped because of the information I received…
Many of us did not know that children have the right to engage a conversation with their parents…
I realized when I give her choices, she follows me more easily… I let him help at home…
I share everything that I learn with the people at home… I told my husband not to call her “bad girl…”
The program was too short… We need to continue… Many more people need that information…”
What the program leaders say:
“The parents realized they could not continue to treat their children the way they were doing…
We live in a destabilized society… To get out of this crisis, we need to educate parents and raise our children well…
The AKOR program will help us bring positive change and build the Haiti that we want…
The concepts are well-articulated in the videos… Parents identify with the characters and respond to the Creole content, which is authentic, not a mere translation.
The train-the-Trainer motivated me to offer the program to teachers and parents in my school… Some teachers support the parents in their use of corporal punishment…
